31 Castlegate Restaurant
Located in the heart of York in a stunning Georgian house, 31 Castlegate is an elegant restaurant serving contemporary British cuisine. The candlelit dining room, with beautiful high ceilings, has an intimate ambience making it popular with couples and small groups celebrating special occasions. Chef Patron Nick Julius has an impressive background, and the menus are written to utilise seasonal produce. Signature dishes at 31 Castlegate include the baked garlic queen scallops with creamed leeks, topped with a Lancashire cheese crumble; slow-roasted free-range belly of pork cooked in Magners cider with mash and green beans; and the delicious sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. 31 Castlegate also has an extensive range of new and old world wines.

Café No 8
This charming eatery is one of York's best kept secrets. Located just behind the old city walls, Café No 8 has an intimate bistro-style ambience and a delightful hidden, paved garden out the back. The super-cheerful staff and delicious menu have won this restaurant awards and local loyalty, and the café is always buzzing with a laid-back crowd. In the evenings the menu features favourites such as salad with fresh figs, blue cheese and pine nuts served with a blackcurrant and rosemary dressing, and home oak-smoked salmon fillet served with a bubble and squeak cake with a poached egg on top. You’re welcomed into a modern darkwood bar surrounded with wooden tables, mismatched upholstered chairs, and a blazing fire at the other end of the oak floor. Very professional service.
